As (t)he(y) is unsure about which gender (t)he(y) feels (t)he(y) is on a daily basis, then that means it is a plural. We don't do person pronouns now, it's gender, therefore 'it' beccomes 'they'.
But hey, this whole gender identity issue is just another conspiracy theory, rather than real life, right?
